Things have been going really well for Bajaj with the launch of the Pulsar 200 NS and we have all been expecting a Pulsar 375 to come along with the KTM Duke 390. There is new news however! A source on the condition of anonymity told BikeToq that Bajaj is indeed contemplating a Pulsar 200 SS (Super Sport), to be priced Rs.10,000 over the 200 NS.
This rubbishes rumours claiming that Bajaj had shelved plans of launching the 200 SS. The 200 SS will be a fully faired version of the Pulsar 200 NS with the same engine and overall design barring the addition of a full fairing. There is no official word or spy image of the 200 SS but it would make a lot of sense in the present market. Also read: Bajaj Pulsar 200NS versus KTM DUKE200
The Pulsar 220 is now getting old and dated and the Karizma too is too old to draw any special attention. It seems that Bajaj has identified this void in the 200cc segment and might launch the 200 SS to cash in on this opportunity.
If launched the 200 SS will pose a serious threat to the Yamaha R15, Karizma, Karizma ZMR and the Yamaha Fazer. We can expect the 200 SS to be priced aggressively at only a slight premium over the 200 NS. Hence, we can safely assume that the 200SS will cost around Rs.95,000 (ex-showroom).
The 200 SS will have the same 199.5cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder, 4-valve, SOHC motor that puts out 23 Bhp of peak power at 9,500 Rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8,000 Rpm. The 200 SS too will come with the same triple-spark technology as the 200 NS and will have a 6-speed gear box.
The 200 NS has a 0 to 100 Kmph time of less than 10 seconds and can hit speeds of over 140 Kmph when unrestricted. Bajaj will likely ensure that the 200 SS is almost as light as the 200 NS and the aerodynamic fairing will likely aid high-speed stability as well. Also see: Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS Photo Gallery
