Is Bajaj working on a CNG motorcycle?

By Biketoq Editor

Bajaj Auto is now in the advanced stages of developing a CNG-petrol hybrid motorcycle, internally known as the “Bruzer of E101.” If all proceeds as planned, this innovative vehicle could hit Indian roads within the next 6 to 12 months.

Prototypes of the 110cc CNG bike have already been crafted, with initial production slated to take place at the company’s Aurangabad facility, and eventual expansion to the Pant Nagar factory. Industry chatter suggests that this new offering might bear the Platina brand.

Bajaj Auto boasts a stellar track record in adapting three-wheelers to CNG and LPG, commanding a commanding 90 percent share of the passenger three-wheeler market.

Originally, Bajaj intended to manufacture approximately 1-1.2 lakh CNG motorcycles annually. However, this figure has been adjusted upward to over 2 lakh units, driven by surging demand for cleaner and cost-effective transportation alternatives.

Although specific details about the CNG bike’s features, pricing, and launch dates remain undisclosed, Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, hinted that a CNG motorcycle could address affordability challenges in the 100-110cc segment. With government support and lower GST rates for CNG vehicles, these eco-friendly motorcycles could become more accessible to entry-level buyers.

Bajaj’s strategic move dovetails with the broader automotive industry’s push for reduced GST rates on cleaner fuels, a cause championed by industry leaders like Maruti Suzuki.
