Simple Energy, an electric vehicle (EV) startup based in Bangalore, has launched its first electric scooter, the Simple One. The scooter is available for purchase at a starting price of Rs 1.45 lakh (excluding showroom fees) in Bengaluru.

The Simple One is equipped with a 5 KWh smart battery management system that can provide a claimed range of 212 kilometers in Indian driving conditions, making it the longest-range electric two-wheeler in the Indian market. The scooter is designed for Indian road conditions and is powered by an 8.5 kW electric motor and 72Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 40kph in 2.77 seconds.

One of the scooter’s standout features is its fully-customizable TFT digital dashboard, a 30-liter boot space, 12-inch tubeless tires, and an LED headlight. The Simple One also comes with CBS and disc brakes, which were designed to provide sporty dynamics to the scooter.

The Simple One will be available in four single-tone color options (black, red, blue, and white) and two dual-tone options (white and black) with red alloy wheels and highlights. Simple Energy plans to begin delivering the scooter in the upcoming days, starting with Bengaluru. The company also plans to expand its retail operations to 40-50 cities in the next year, with 160-180 retail stores in those cities.

Simple Energy has announced that the Simple One will beavailable for delivery from June 1, 2023. Buyers can also purchase a 750W fast charger for an additional Rs. 13,000. The scooter is available in six colors, including Namma Red, Brazen Black, Azure Blue, Grace White, BrazenX, and LightX. It will be manufactured at the company’s new facility in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu, with an installed capacity of approximately five lakh units per year.

What sets the Simple One apart from its competitors is its thermal management system, which prevents thermal runaways. Simple Energy developed this system in collaboration with IIT-Indore.

It also has a customizable digital dashboard, large boot space, and advanced braking system. Simple Energy plans to expand its retail operations and will begin delivering the scooter from June 1, 2023. The Simple One is also the first e-scooter to have a thermal management system to prevent thermal runaways.
