Ols S1 Air announcement on Feb 9

Ola Electric is set to make an announcement on February 9, 2023, according to CEO Bhavish Aggarwal.

The announcement is likely related to the company’s electric scooter, the S1 Air, as the tweet had the caption “Change, it’s in the air” which is also the scooter’s tagline. The S1 Air was launched in October 2022 and is priced at Rs. 84,999.

It is positioned below the S1 and S1 Pro models and is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen console, three riding modes, and a 2.5 kWh battery pack offering 100 km range in Eco mode.

The payment window for the S1 Air was previously set to open in the first week of February, so the announcement could be related to that. The Ola S1 Air is a great value in the market, with a price point similar to many petrol-powered scooters and features like a touchscreen console and impressive range.

Ola has been in a bit of PR trouble recently, due to news of the front suspension of one of their scooters breaking. This resulted in the rider getting injured and was admitted to the ICU. Ola got in touch with the owner’s spouse and are helping them out. The company said that the suspension breakage happened due to a high impact – exactly what this meant was not clear.

The much cheaper S1 Air scooter could see even higher adoption that the S1 and the S1 Pro electric scooters, and pose an even bigger challenge to the company’s main rival Ather Anergy.
